Farewell, Good (& only) Friends

the Fargo and Bartlett families

Here’s an update on our church situation. It’s basically an article we submitted for the Lammas 2022 Glad Tidings newsletter, announcing the closure of our Methodist Society within the Western District of the UECNA. We’ll miss the Fargos, but COVID restrictions, among other events, took us different directions. COVID probably deepened sentiments both families already were flirting with. The Fargos wanted a public church, or some kind of institution, doubling-down on their Covenantor identity (while this whole time we believed Casey was a New Light Presbyterian). Our family wanted mostly to keep the private society, and became Seekers (meanwhile Casey likely thought we were really Anglicans), becoming skeptical of churchly organizations.

Independence Day X

July 27, 2022 at 3:11 pm (society)

Abby’s first Fish

July 15, 2022 at 2:12 pm (Uncategorized)

Abby at Bagby Junction, Mariposa (catfish)

The picture says it all. Abby caught her first fish while we camped along the Merced at the beginning of summer. This was a longer trip for us, consisting three nights and four days. We traveled along highway 49 through the southern mines from Murphy’s (Big Trees included) to Bear Valley in Mariposa Co.. Bear Valley was JC Fremont’s ‘White House’– a rather humble residence while his family and he stayed near his gold claims during the 1850’s. The one-road entrance to the Valley was gaurded by a Fort for repelling claim jumpers. Fremont nearly owned the whole of present-day Mariposa County, so we came out to get a feel of the land.
